How Do I Get a Job as a Supply Teacher?
First of all, you’ll need to sign up with a trusted supply teacher agency like First for Education. To register with First for Education, you’ll have to complete a process of application before we can help source the perfect short or long-term supply teaching jobs for you. The stages are straightforward and allow us to get the most information so that we can find the most suitable teaching job for you.
Register for Supply Teaching
When you sign up with First for Education, you’ll enter our registration portal which is the first stage of the application process. We advise that you complete this online registration in full as it will prevent any delays in processing the application. Input your full name, email address, location and your most up-to-date CV. Once this step is complete, you will receive a notification that your online form had been accepted and you’ll move on to the interview stage of the application process.
Supply Teaching Agency Interviews
When all of your contact details have been received by us, one of our experienced consultants will call you to carry out a basic interview over the phone. At First for Education, we have 4 locations in the Midlands: Worcester, Stourbridge, Birmingham and Wolverhampton and you will be interviewed by a consultant from an area closest to your location. During this interview, the recruitment consultant will identify the type of teaching role you prefer, so if you prefer primary supply teaching or perhaps you want to work as an SEN supply teacher we can add your preference to your application. The consultant will also discuss your qualifications, rates of pay and previous teaching experience. At the end of this interview, the consultant will send you a link via email with another set of forms which will gather more detailed information. To complete these forms you’ll need to have the following information handy:
- A current DBS Certificate
- An up-to-date Safeguarding certificate
- 2 references
- Details of qualifications
Supply Teaching Compliance Checks
When the compliance team receive all of the documents to support your applications, they will make sure all candidates have fulfilled compliance requirements. At First for Education, we make sure that all applicants have an up-to-date safeguarding certificate, a current DBS certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service and 2 teacher references that should span a 3 year period. During the compliance stage of our registration process, we will need to see evidence of all documents and certificates to support your application. When the compliance team is satisfied that your documents meet the requirements, you’ll be assigned a consultant to find supply teaching jobs for you.
