First for Education are seeking an experienced and passionate School Librarian to join a welcoming secondary school in Birmingham, starting December 2025.
This role would suit someone with a background in school library management, literacy support, reading intervention, or educational administration, who is dedicated to promoting a culture of reading, enquiry and independent learning.
As a School Librarian, you will:
Manage and develop the school library and learning resource centre
Promote literacy, reading for pleasure, and independent learning across the school
Support student research, reading interventions, and resource organisation
Maintain, catalogue and curate physical and digital library collections
Assist with literacy initiatives, book clubs, author visits, and academic enrichment
Support pupils with study skills, information literacy and research projects
Work collaboratively with English, SEND and pastoral teams
Previous experience in a school library, literacy intervention, or educational support role – essential
Strong organisational, administration, and communication skills
Knowledge of library systems, information management, or reading programmes
Passion for books, literacy, and promoting a love of reading
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
