How Do I Get a Job as a Teaching Assistant?

The best way to get a teaching assistant job is to sign up with a reputable teaching assistant recruitment agency like First for Education. The first step of registration involves completing the application process before we can source the perfect vacancy for you. The application process is simple and aims at getting the most relevant information from potential candidates so that we can match TAs to the most suitable TA job.

Register To Become A Teaching Assistant

To register with First for Education, you’ll need to enter our registration portal and complete the online form. In order to avoid delays with your application we highly recommend you complete the details in full. The online registration form will need the following information:

  • Your full name
  • Your full address
  • Your email address
  • Your most up-to-date CV

When you’ve completed and submitted the application, you’ll receive an email notification confirming the receipt of your registration form. The next stage of the application process is the interview stage.

Teaching Assistant Agency Interviews

The next stage of the recruitment process involves a basic interview to assess suitability, which usually takes place over the phone. Once we have received your contact details, a recruitment consultant from one of our 4 Midland locations will call to conduct the short interview. You’ll be contacted by a consultant from the Frist for Education office closest to you and our offices are based in Stourbridge, Birmingham, Worcester and Wolverhampton. The consultant will ask you about any teaching assistant qualifications or previous experience you may have. Additionally, during this call, you’ll have the opportunity to state what type of teaching assistant role you would like to accept. So if you’re looking for part-time teaching assistant jobs or perhaps sen teaching assistant jobs, the consultant will take note of your preferences during the interview. When the interview has been completed, the consultant will send you additional forms via an email link. These forms will collect your compliance information and you’ll need the following details to complete the forms correctly:

  • 2 references
  • An up-to-date Safeguarding certificate
  • Details of any relevant qualifications
  • A current DBS Certificate

When you have completed the compliance forms, you’ll need to return them to First for Education before moving on to the next stage of the application process.

Teacher Assistant Compliance Checks

The compliance team at First for Education thoroughly check all the received documents to make sure the certificates and references are up-to-date and relevant. To complete the recruitment process, all potential candidates will need to provide a clean and current DBS certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service as well as a current safeguarding certificate (within the last 2 years).

All candidates MUST have a child safeguarding certificate to prove completion of the safeguarding course before they can be cleared for work. The certificate must specify either “child safeguarding” or “child protection” and it must display the date when the course was completed. If you don’t already have a safeguarding certificate, you can complete an online Safeguarding course with First for Education. In all instances, when the certificate expires, you will need to renew the certification by completing a new safeguarding course before you can continue to work with us.

Additionally, two references that cover 3-years will also be needed and you must supply original copies of all the requested documents and certificates. When you have returned all of the compliance documents and we are happy that all the requirements have been met, a recruitment consultant will be assigned to you to begin the process of finding teaching assistant jobs.
