Operam Education Group

First for Education is seeking a proactive and supportive Primary Teaching Assistant with strong phonics experience to join a welcoming primary school in Dudley, supporting pupils across the classroom to help them engage with learning. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering the Little Wandle programme and feel confident working as a phonics specialist within a primary school setting.

This is a full-time or part-time ongoing position, working closely with the class teacher to support pupils across the school.

The school has a strong focus on inclusive learning and pupil development, with a supportive staff team and a positive learning environment, making it an excellent opportunity for a Primary Teaching Assistant looking to develop their experience in a school setting.

You will be confident delivering phonics interventions, supporting small group activities, and working 1:1 with pupils who may require additional support with reading and communication skills.

Previous experience using the Little Wandle format within a primary school setting is essential.

Primary Teaching Assistant benefits:

  • Competitive daily rate (£85 – £110 per day, dependent on experience)
    • Paid weekly
    • Long-term stability
    • Access to professional development and CPD opportunities
    • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement
    • £150 refer a friend scheme (T&Cs apply)

Primary Teaching Assistant role requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people (school-based desirable)
    • Experience supporting pupils within a primary school setting
    • Previous experience delivering phonics interventions, ideally using the Little Wandle programme or similar phonics schemes.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • A patient, proactive and supportive approach
    • Ability to work as part of a team
    • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
    • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply

The successful Primary Teaching Assistant will:

  • Support pupils in the classroom on a 1:1 and small group basis
    • Assist the teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
    • Encourage pupil engagement and participation
    • Support behaviour management using positive strategies
    • Help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
    • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams
