Alternative Provision Teacher – Birmingham
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £100 – £210 per day (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, Long-Term, Short-Term

Are you a resilient, passionate and skilled teacher with a strong commitment to supporting pupils who thrive in a non-traditional learning environment?

We are working in partnership with a well-regarded Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Birmingham to recruit an Alternative Provision Teacher who can engage, motivate, and inspire learners who may display challenging behaviours or have faced barriers to mainstream education.

What to Expect:

This is an exciting and highly rewarding opportunity to teach small groups of 7–10 students, with the support of a Teaching Assistant. You’ll be working in a dynamic and flexible setting that values strong relationships, emotional resilience, and consistent boundaries. Every day will be different — and every small success will feel like a major win.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across a range of subjects (subject specialism welcomed)
  • Teach small groups of pupils who require targeted behaviour and academic support
  • Ensure all learners make progress in line with or exceeding expectations
  • Participate in parent/carer meetings, multi-agency reviews, and school-wide planning
  • Create a calm, respectful, and purposeful classroom environment
  • Maintain consistent behaviour management using positive reinforcement and clear expectations
  • Build meaningful, trust-based relationships with students, staff, and families

You Will Need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS or equivalent)
  • Strong behaviour management strategies and a restorative approach
  • Experience working with young people in an alternative provision, PRU, or SEMH setting is highly desirable
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure, show empathy, and maintain high expectations
  • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils

What the School Offers:

  • A supportive and forward-thinking senior leadership team
  • Access to CPD and tailored training focused on trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and behaviour support
  • Opportunities for progression and permanent employment
  • A close-knit team of passionate educators making a genuine difference
  • A setting where relationships come first — and progress follows
