First for Education is working with a secondary school in Birmingham to recruit a committed and compassionate Pastoral Behaviour Mentor. This is a highly rewarding, student-facing role where you’ll have a direct impact on behaviour, engagement and wellbeing.

Ideal for those with experience in pastoral teams, behaviour units (PRUs), youth mentoring, or similar environments, this position offers both challenge and fulfilment in equal measure.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students at risk of exclusion or disengagement from learning
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to manage behaviour and build positive relationships
  • Provide consistent pastoral care, mentoring and emotional support
  • Promote restorative approaches and liaise with teaching staff, SENCOs and parents
  • Help create a safe, respectful and inclusive school environment
  • Monitor and track student progress, attendance and behaviour patterns

We Offer:

  • Ongoing CPD including behaviour management and mental health awareness training
  • A dedicated consultant to support your placement and development
  • Opportunities to work in diverse and forward-thinking school settings

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience working with young people in a pastoral, behavioural, or support role is essential
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations
  • Experience with SEMH, SEND, or pupils with complex needs is highly desirable
