What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

• A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or recent classroom experience.
• A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their learning across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
• The ability to work closely with teachers and other staff to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Patience, empathy and confidence when supporting pupils with SEND and EAL needs.
• Good communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• Punctuality, reliability and a professional approach to every placement.
• A valid Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to apply – we can help with this).
• Two recent professional references.

We welcome applications from both experienced Teaching Assistants and those newer to the classroom with the right motivation and commitment.

The role

As a Teaching Assistant with First for Education, you will:

• Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons and activities that meet all pupils’ needs.
• Provide 1:1 or small-group support, especially for children with additional learning, behavioural or emotional needs.
• Assist with lesson preparation, classroom organisation and displays.
• Encourage and motivate pupils to participate, stay focused and reach their learning goals.
• Foster positive relationships and act as a trusted, consistent presence for pupils.
• Help implement individual learning plans (ILPs) and behaviour strategies under the guidance of class teachers or the SENCO.
• Supervise children during lessons, playtime or lunchtimes, ensuring a safe, nurturing environment.

Whether you’re supporting phonics in Year 1, guided reading in Year 3, or 1:1 SEND support in KS2, your role is essential in helping every child feel confident, valued and capable of success.
