We are working with a specialist SEND service that supports children and young people with hearing impairments across both mainstream and specialist settings in the Birmingham area. They are looking to appoint a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD) to join their dedicated and highly skilled team.
This is a rewarding and varied role offering the chance to make a real difference to pupils with hearing loss by promoting full access to learning, language development and inclusive communication strategies.
Providing specialist teaching and support to deaf and hearing-impaired learners
Working with children across EYFS, primary or secondary phases, depending on your background
Supporting schools with adaptations, teaching strategies, and staff CPD
Using a total communication approach, including BSL, speech, visual cues and assistive technologies
Liaising closely with families, audiology teams, speech therapists and other professionals
A qualified teacher with the Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of the Deaf (MQTOD)
Experience supporting pupils with hearing impairments, preferably within a school or outreach setting
Someone confident working collaboratively with SENCOs and support teams
A strong communicator who is passionate about inclusion and accessibility
BSL skills are desirable, but not essential
