Here we go again! Another guide to the recently appointed new Education Minister. Did you know that this is the fifth one to be in post in the last 3 months? Sadly, it’s hard to keep up to date with government changes and different ministers of whose doing what. So, here is a quick summary of the latest person to be appointed to the role.

  • Name: Gillian Keegan.
  • Age: 54years.
  • Born: Knowsley, Merseyside.
  • Education: Studied Business at Liverpool John Moores University and then for a master’s degree in Strategy and Leadership at London Business School.
  • Background profession: 30 years in the manufacturing, banking, and IT industries.
  • Past places of work: Car factory, NatWest bank, Mastercard International, Delco Electronics, Amadeus IT Group, Travelport.
  • Past Cabinet roles: recently served as a Minister for Africa in the Foreign Office, was previously a health minister, with responsibility for care and mental health during the latter half of the Covid pandemic. Before that she was Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills.
  • Current roles: MP for Chichester since 2017, Minister for Education.
  • Famous so far for: Being on holiday in August 2020 during the GCSE and A level controversy when she was duty minister; she posted holiday pictures on Instagram but said she took her work laptop with her on holiday and continued to work.
